$257 Million Jackpot on Offer in Tonight’s Powerball Drawing

The impressive top prize is the second largest Powerball jackpot seen so far this year and comes as the result of 13 consecutive draws without a top tier winner.
The last Powerball jackpot was won over six weeks ago, on Wednesday April 23, when one lucky ticket purchased in Florida matched all five main numbers plus the Powerball. However, the owner of the winning ticket has yet to come forward and claim their $148 million prize.
Waiting several weeks before claiming a large prize is not uncommon and the winner of largest Powerball jackpot of the year waited over a month before he stepped forward with his win. Californian B. Raymond Buxton won the $425.3 million jackpot on Wednesday February 19 and exercised a healthy sense of humour when he accepted his win on April Fool’s Day, wearing a comedy t-shirt.
Buxton declined to show his face or disclose any personal information including his age, occupation or home town. He did, however, reveal the reason behind the lengthy delay in claiming his prize. Buxton discovered his win within days of the draw taking place and then spent the next six weeks establishing a charitable foundation focused on the paediatric health, child hunger and education. When he collected his win on April Fool’s Day Buxton said he was looking forward to his new job as a philanthropist and fund raiser.
