Georgia Lottery player wins with sports shirts numbers

Friday February 11th 2011

A man from Fort Valley in Georgia has won over $70,000 after his old football jersey numbers came up trumps. Larry Green decided to play the state’s Fantasy 5 lottery game using numbers from the backs of old football shirts he’d played in. And the choice of numbers certainly served him well.

Mr Green said: “I used football numbers from jerseys. All the way from grammar school, every number I ever wore.”

But even after winning $72,868, Mr Green didn’t let his emotions run away with him, and kept a lid on things despite having just won an extraordinary amount of money.

“I didn’t want to wake my neighbours up,” he said.

Mr Green, who went to buy lotto tickets for the January 29 draw at the Stop ‘n Save store in Milledgeville, told Georgia Lottery organisers that he plans to share the winnings with his family. The store is also due to receive a seller’s bonus of $2,000.
