A New York Lottery player walked away with Saturday’s Powerball jackpot of over $122million. The player managed to match the five main numbers 30, 31, 34, 45 and 51, along with the Powerball 23. Following a number of rollovers, the grand prize was originally estimated at $118million, but with people all over the country determined to buy lotto tickets and be in with a chance of winning, the jackpot rose to $122,100,000.

So far the only information released by authorities is that the single winning ticket was bought in New York state. Organisers will now be waiting expectantly for the player to come forward and validate their ticket.

A further five people managed to come within a whisper of getting a share of the jackpot. Another New York Lottery player, along with players in Florida, Connecticut, New Jersey and Virginia all managed to match the five main numbers, only missing out on the Powerball. However, they will all still win a $200,000 prize.

In total, just over one million players won prizes in Saturday’s draw, sharing $6.6million between them. As a result of the big win, the jackpot will now be reset to $20m in time for this Wednesday’s draw.
