Friday June 17th 2011

Instant games or scratchcards as they are also know as, are a very popular addition to any state lottery, but it is rare that people win millions on these. However, the fact that the odds of winning a prize are more favourable than the main lottery games means that many find these games attractive. News of a $5 million scratchcard win for an Ohio Lottery player, shows that what some might deem impossible is in fact very possible.

This lucky winner has been named as Phillip Witham who is 54 years old and from Logan. He initially bought a $20 instant l ticket from Speedway gas station as far back as 2006 and won $2,500. All winning Ohio Lottery instant tickets that cost $5 or more are then entered into a separate draw when the game ends. Phillip Witham’s instant lottery ticket qualified for this draw and his was one of 86 tickets that were entered.

This lottery win on the Top Prize Drawing feature was announced on Tuesday at a lottery office in Athens which is in South East Ohio. Phillip Witham who receives disability assistance due some health issues he is experiencing says ‘he has no immediate plans for his winnings other than to share some of his fortune with friends.’

Top Prize drawings from the Ohio Lottery are held no less than 180 days from the close date of the game, so if you have bought any winning instant lotto tickets costing more than $5 from the Ohio Lottery then you too could be a winner. This most recent win was from a ticket purchased five years ago, so you never know when you could get a call.
