Texas Lotto Jackpot Comes to Tiny Town of Cuero

Wednesday June 4th 2014

The Texas Lotto jackpot reached an impressive $36 million before it was finally won on Saturday with a ticket purchased in the tiny town of Cuero. The town’s residents, all 6,841 of them, are now waiting eagerly for the lucky winner to be identified.

The winning ticket was purchased at Stripes convenience store on Morgan Avenue and the store has since been packed with curious customers hoping to find out who the winner is. Initially, suspicion spread that local man Carlos Gottschalt was the lucky winner but Texas Lottery officials confirmed yesterday that nobody had come forward yet.

Gottschalt revealed he has been bombarded with messages and phone calls from well-wishers but was entirely unsure about how the rumour had spread. “I'm the poorest millionaire that you'll ever lay eyes on" Gottschalt said, bemused by the attention he’s been receiving.

When the winner does step forward, they can look forward to cashing in on the largest Texas Lotto jackpot in over four years. Last won on New Year’s Day, the supersized top prize eluded players for more than six months and came as a result of 42 consecutive draws without a top tier winner.

Saturday’s jackpot also takes the title as second largest prize ever won in the Texas Lotto. The largest jackpot in the game’s history was worth an incredible $97 million and was won on May 29th 2010 after 65 successive draws without a top tier winner.

The next Texas Lotto draw takes place tonight and offers players a brand new jackpot worth $5 million. However, if you’d like to play for a much bigger top prize, the multi-state lottery Powerball also takes place tonight and is giving players across the country the chance to compete for a $192 million jackpot. If you’d like to participate in the Powerball game, tickets can be purchased online by following the Buy Tickets tab or in person from an authorised retailer in any of the participating states.
