The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize, so be sure to check your tickets because you might just be the state's newest multi-millionaire.

The winning ticket was purchased at Stripes Store 40922H, at 5301 McPherson Road in Laredo. The ticket was a Quick Pick matching all six numbers in the Wednesday, January 15 draw: 16, 34, 38, 40, 49 and 54.

The winner chose the cash value option when the ticket was purchased, so they will receive a lump sum payment of $13,349,448.78 before taxes.

"We look forward to meeting our first Lotto Texas jackpot winner of the new year,” said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery. “If you have the winning ticket, we encourage you to sign the ticket, put it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice, and call the Texas Lottery before coming to Austin to claim the prize.”

The mega jackpot started out at $5 million, the minimum prize level, on September 28 last year and has been rolling over and growing ever since.

43,139 other Lotto Texas players also won prizes in the January 15 draw. The biggest prize after the jackpot was $12,231.

Wednesday's amazing jackpot was still quite a bit less than the biggest-ever Lotto Texas win on a single ticket. Lois Loden and John Osorio, representing LOJO Partners of Richardson, took the $34.1 million cash option on the advertised $60 million jackpot in the September 9, 2000 drawing.

Lotto Texas draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:12 pm CT. Six numbers from one to 54 are randomly selected in each draw. There are four prize tiers, and players can also add the Extra! option for an additional $1 for a chance to win up to $10,000 more on all prizes except the jackpot.

Texans had already rounded up some impressive lottery prizes in January before the jackpot hit. A Plano resident claimed a $2 million Powerball prize, while Edinburg, Houston and Pearsall residents each won $1 million on scratch tickets.

All four winners opted to remain anonymous - Texas is one of a handful of states to allow winners to keep their identity private.

Launched in 1992, the Texas Lottery the has lassoed over $30 billion in revenue for the state, while players have won $62 billion in prizes. Since 1997, the Lottery has contributed $24.4 billion to public education in Texas, and since 2009 it has distributed over $126 million to programs benefiting Texas veterans.

The Lotto Texas jackpot has now reset to its starting level of $5 million for the next draw on Saturday, January 18, so get your tickets now for your chance to win.
