$55.9 Million Powerball Jackpot Won As Mega Millions Hits $458 Million

Monday March 26th 2018

The Powerball jackpot was won for the second time in the space of three drawings on Saturday night as someone from Louisiana grabbed over $55 million, but the top prize in Mega Millions rolled once again and now stands at a gigantic $458 million.

Powerball Winner

The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday March 24th were 10, 33, 45, 53 and 56, with Powerball 24. There were 540,469 prize winners on the night, including two players who matched all five main numbers without the Powerball to win $1 million each.

One participant went even better and matched the full winning line, becoming the 17th player from Louisiana to snatch the top prize in Powerball and only the third jackpot winner this year. A woman from New Hampshire won €559.7 million on January 6th and eventually claimed her money after a legal row over anonymity, and a Pennsylvania player won $456.7 million just a week ago on Saturday March 17th.

The latest winner bought their ticket in Lafayette, South Louisiana, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, at a convenience store called Tiger Touchdown No.2 in the 600 block of East Milton Avenue. The cash value of the prize was around $32.4 million, and the lucky player now has 180 days to come forward and claim the prize.

Mega Millions Jackpot

While the Powerball jackpot has now been won twice in the last three drawings, Mega Millions has rolled 22 times since 20-year-old Florida resident Shane Missler landed an extraordinary €451 million on Friday January 5th.

The latest rollover carried the current jackpot past that €451 million and up to €458 million, making it the fourth-largest prize to ever be offered on the game. The record jackpot is $656 million, which was split between three players on March 30th 2012.
