Florida lotto player scoops $1m Powerball prize

Monday February 21st 2011

A Powerball lottery player from Florida has become a millionaire following Saturday night's draw. By spending an extra dollar on the game’s Powerplay option, one lucky ticket holder saw their $200,000 prize turn into $1million, after matching the five main numbers, 3, 12, 34, 37 and 42. A further seven players also managed to correctly pick the main numbers, but none of them had paid for Powerplay or chosen the Powerball, 36.

As a result, the jackpot will roll over once again. The next Powerball draw is set to take place on Wednesday, and the estimated jackpot currently stands at $155million. If just one person were to scoop the lot, it would provide them with a cash lump sum of $75.9million before state and federal taxes.

The jackpot of the other multi-state lottery game, Mega Millions, has also continued to rise after no one managed to pick the winning numbers in last Friday night's draw. A total of seven lottery winners won $250,000 each after matching the five main numbers, 5, 6, 7, 30 and 45, but no one picked the Mega Ball, 42.

The next game will take place on Tuesday night, with a jackpot of $64milion up for grabs.
