Lucky Player Wins $42.5 Million New York Lotto Jackpot

Wednesday October 21st 2015

Someone finally struck it lucky on New York Lotto last weekend, ending an almost 11-month long rollover streak and pocketing a wallet-busting $42.5 million. The winning entry, which matched the six main numbers of 1, 9, 11, 16, 19 and 22 in the drawing on Saturday, October 17th, was purchased at the Pit Stop store in Weedsport, Cayuga County. Whoever purchased the ticket now has one year from the date of the drawing to claim their life-changing prize.

Speculation is rife that the latest New York Lotto winner could be from the area, and store staff are said to be pleased about the big win, which is a first for the business. “We’re sort of excited because we want to see if it was local or not,” said Sherry Catalino in the Auburn Citizen. Previously, the largest prize won from the Pit Stop was $5,000 from a scratchcard.

Joanne Helmer, the Director of Marketing for Pit Stop, commented to WSYR News that “now the excitement still builds because we don’t know who it is and we’re so connected to our community we’re just hoping it’s a face we know.”

The last player to win the top prize was Thomas Rea, a stay-at-home dad from Hicksville who snapped up a cool $12.4 million in the drawing on Saturday, November 19th, 2014. Afterwards, the jackpot rolled over a total of 95 times until last weekend’s game, eclipsing a previous record set in 2009, when the drawing on Saturday, May 16th saw a player net a $41 million payout.

New York Lotto returns tonight with a jackpot worth an estimated $2 million, and if you think you can ensure that there will be at least one more jackpot winner before 2015 draws to a close, make sure you buy tickets as soon as possible. If you’re in the area, you might want to visit the Pit Stop in Weedsport to see if any of that rollover-busting luck rubs off on you!
