If the person is still trying to come to terms with their big win, they don’t have to worry about losing out on the money just yet. They have until August 4 to come forward and validate a claim – after that the cash and any accumulated interest will be automatically transferred into the lottery’s good causes fund.

A spokesperson for the UK lottery said organisers have got champagne on ice in anticipation of the winner coming forward.

He said: "We are desperate to find this mystery ticket-holder and unite them with their winnings – this amazing prize could really make a huge difference to somebody's life.

"We're urging everyone to check their old tickets again or look anywhere a missing ticket could be hiding."

Over in America, a FANTASY 5 jackpot-winning lottery ticket bought in Pompano Beach, Florida, is also about to expire. The ticket's owner has until midnight on Wednesday (23) to come forward and claim their $56,000 prize before they lose it forever.
