Five ticket holders narrowly missed out on winning the jackpot in Saturday’s draw when they matched all five main numbers but not the Mega Ball number. However, by matching all five main numbers these players did each win $1 million. The five winning tickets were purchased in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois and Washington and as the winner from Colorado had opted for the Power Play, their win doubled to $2 million.

In addition, as one of the Match 5 winners was from California, their win increased to $3.1 million as lottery prizes in California are paid on a pari-mutuel basis. Lottery officials from California have confirmed that the Match 5 winning ticket was purchased from the 7 Eleven store on Carson Street in Torrance.

As tonight’s draw gives players the chance to win a jackpot worth $131 million, ticket sales are likely to rise so players are advised to purchase their tickets in plenty of time for tonight’s draw. Powerball tickets can be purchased from authorized retailers in any of the participating states or online via the Buy Tickets page.

Tonight’s draw will see the return of the Power Play multiplier where Power Play prizes will now be multiplied by 2, 3, 4 or 5 rather than set prizes as in previous draws. The variable Power Play multiplier was used in Powerball until January 2012 when it was replaced by set prizes. The multiplier will be applied to all Powerball prizes with the exception of the jackpot and Match 5 prizes.

Power Play drawings will take place after the main Powerball draw when the multiplier number between 2 and 5 will be drawn.
