The lucky tickets matched all six numbers in the Wednesday, January 5 draw: white balls 6 - 14 - 25 - 33 - 46, plus the red Powerball, 17. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

The winners will share the seventh-highest prize in Powerball history. If they choose the annuity option, each ticket is worth $316.3 million - or $225.1 million if the lump sum cash payout is selected. Both amounts are before taxes.

The California ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven in Sacramento located at 6591 Wyndham Drive. The Wisconsin ticket was purchased at the Jackson Pointe Citgo on Packerland Drive, Ashwaubenonin, in the Green Bay area.

"We are a family-owned business. We love our customers. It's kind of like a 'Cheers' here. Everybody knows their name," said Mary Willems, who has spent 15 years as the Citgo general manager.

"My heart's racing, I have goosebumps all over. It's great for our store. It's great for our community here. We have a lot of regulars who play the game all the time and I'm hoping whoever won this ticket is a regular and we can share in their joy."

Higher-than-expected sales drove the jackpot above earlier projections. Long lines formed outside Powerball retailers as players patiently waited for their chance at the life-changing prize.

The jackpot was last won on October 4, 40 drawings ago. A single ticket in California hit $699.8 million, which was the fifth-biggest ever Powerball prize and the seventh-largest ever US lottery prize.

Two tickets worth $2 million each were sold in Florida and Georgia. They matched all five white balls and included the Power Play multiplier add-on, which doubled the normal Match 5 prize.

12 lucky players won $1 million each with Match 5 tickets sold in Arizona, California, Florida (three tickets), Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York (two tickets), and Texas.
