Launched in June 2023, Pick 5 is a five-digit Virginia Lottery game that offers players the chance to win up to $50,000 twice every day! There are lots of different ways to play, thanks to the different Play Types, wager amounts, the Fireball add-on, and the number of Ways you can play - we'll explain all these options in our comprehensive guide!
Pick 5 draws are held twice a day. The Day draw is held at 1:59 PM ET, and the Night draw is at 11 PM ET. Ticket sales are closed shortly before each drawing, at 1:53 PM for the Day draw and 10:45 PM for the Night draw.
The table below shows the payout for each play type, wager amount, and all the different Ways to play, along with the odds of winning. If you're unamiliar with the different play types, we explain them all in the Play Types Guide further down the page.

Your Play Type is the set of rules that determines how your numbers can win the prize. In the base game, there are no runner-up prizes - you either win your prize outright, or you don’t.
Pick five digits from 0 to 9. If you chose the Any Order or 50/50 play types, then using duplicate digits will reduce your chances of winning. The upside is that the prizes, should you win, will be bigger. We explain how this works in the Ways to Play section further down the page. If you don't want to pick your own numbers, check the Easy Pick box and the lottery terminal will randomly assign them for you.
You can choose to wager either $0.50 or $1 on each Play Type. The only difference here is that the $1 prizes are 2X the value of the $0.50 prizes.
Fireball is an optional feature you can add to your Pick 5 play to boost your chances of winning. The Fireball doubles the cost of your plays, but it can convert your near-wins into real wins!
The Fireball is a sixth number from 0 to 9 selected as part of the draw. You can replace any one of the five main winning numbers with the Fireball to create new combinations. For example, if you pick the numbers 12345 and the winning digits are 12349, you'd have lost the main game. But if the Fireball is a 5, you can replace that 9 with the 5 and win a prize!
Use the Select Draw section to specify whether to enter your numbers in the next upcoming Day draw (1:59 PM), Night draw (11:00 PM), or Both (two tickets). Leave this section blank to be entered into the next available draw.
Use the Multi-Draw section to enter your ticket in up to 91 consecutive drawings, the Future Play option to enter your numbers in a future draw, or the Repeat Play option to get duplicate tickets for your plays.
Exact Order - Win by matching all five winning numbers in the order they're drawn.
Any Order - Win by matching all five winning numbers regardless of the order they're drawn in.
50/50 - Your wager is split in two, with half on an Any Order and half on an Exact Order play. Match in drawn order to win both prizes, or any other order for just the Any Order play.
You need to select five numbers from 0 to 9 for your entry, and you can use the same number multiple times. However, Any Order Play Types (including the Any Order half of the 50/50 play type), will have different odds and prizes depending on the number of duplicate digits you've selected.
This is because you can win the Any Order prize with any arrangement of your digits, but picking duplicate digits reduces the number of arrangements you can make, and therefore reduces your odds too!
This is known as the number of Ways to play. You can play 5-Ways (00001), 10-Ways (00011), 20-Ways (00012), 30-Ways (00112), 60-Ways (00123), or 120-Ways (01234). The more Ways you play, the better the odds of winning, but the lower the prizes.
Pick 5 has two draws every day. The Day draw is at 1:59 PM ET, and the Night draw is at 11:00 PM.
Ticket sales for each draw close slightly beforehand. You can still get tickets, just not for the imminent draw. For the Day draw, it's 1:53 ET and for the Night draw it's 10:45 ET.
To play Pick 5 (and all other VA Lottery games) you must be at least 18 years old.
The top prize in Pick 5 is $50,000, which you can win by matching all five digits on a $1 Exact Order bet. However, it's possible to win multiple prizes worth even more using the Fireball add-on. You'd need to be very lucky, but if you played a $1 Exact Order ticket +Fireball using five identical numbers, and those numbers were drawn along with an identical Fireball, you'd win six prizes worth $110,000 collectively.
Depending on how much you've won and whether you're still within Virginia, you can claim your prize at an authorized lottery retailer, by mail, or at one of the VA Lottery's prize claim centers. We have a complete guide on the main Virginia page.
Pick 5 tickets are only valid up to 180 days following the draw they're for. Once this time limit is reached, the ticket will expire and can no longer be redeemed.
