Retirement Hobby Leads to $5 Million Win for Californian Man

Wednesday May 7th 2014

One lucky California resident has struck it lucky and won a $5 million prize this week after taking up scratchers as his retirement hobby. Pat Clark, from San Diego, claimed one of the 14 top prizes on offer in California Lottery’s $5 Million Jackpot scratcher game.

Clark, who admits playing lottery games is a somewhat unconventional hobby, purchased his winning ticket from Ramco Petroleum on Main Street, Julian, while he was cashing in a ticket he’d bought earlier in the week. Little did he know he would be returning to the store in just a matter of moments.

Clark scratched the ticket immediately after leaving the store but, as he didn’t have his glasses on, was unsure just how much he’d won. He returned a few minutes later and asked the cashier to check his ticket, who confirmed the win; “I think he was more excited than I was” added Clark. The store’s owner will receive a $25,000 bonus for selling the winning scratcher.

On Monday, Clark travelled to California Lottery’s headquarters in Sacramento to collect his big win. “It’s been great so far” he said, “you have this dream and it happens. This can’t get any better.” Clark plans to fund a luxury retirement with his win and help out his family financially.

While Clark may have scooped one of the scratcher’s top prizes, there are still seven $5 million prizes remaining and a wide variety of other prizes still up for grabs. The game currently has more than five million prizes available, ranging from $20 up to $5 million.

Lottery.net would like to congratulate Pat on this win and wish him all the best for the future.
