The last time the jackpot was won was on May 31, when a ticket holder from California snapped up $204.5 million. Three months, and 41 drawings later, the wait for the next winner is still going on. It is the most consecutive jackpot rolls in history, surpassing the sequence that led up to a $1.326 billion win in Oregon in April 2024.

What Happened on Wednesday?

Wednesday night’s drawing offered a jackpot of $1.444 billion, significantly up from the initial estimate of $1.3 billion. The winning numbers were revealed to be 3, 16, 29, 61 and 69, with a Powerball of 22. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.

There were 15 ticket holders who matched all five main numbers without the Powerball, narrowly missing out on the 10-figure jackpot. Four of these players - from Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming - had added the Power Play option and so their payout was boosted to $2 million.

In total, there were more than 6.3 million prizes paid out across the U.S., which illustrates just how many tickets must have been sold as the overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. Go to the Payouts page to see how many winners there were in each category, along with details of the Double Play draw.

What Happens Now?

The jackpot for Saturday’s draw has initially been estimated at $1.7 billion (with a cash value of $770.3 million), making it the third-largest of all time. The last time it was higher was in October 2023 when a group of winners from California landed $1.76 billion, and the current jackpot could yet rise above this value for Saturday if a late rush for tickets results in a re-estimation.

The biggest jackpot in history stands at $2.04 billion and dates back to November 2022. California was also the scene of that big win, with Edwin Castro from Altadena ultimately coming forward to claim the money a few months later.

One more draw without a winner could see the current Powerball jackpot create history, but for now fans of the game will be dreaming of a billion-dollar payday this Saturday. Make sure to grab a ticket before the cut-off time, or even play online for added convenience if the option is available in your state.
