Beating the 1 in 292,201,338 odds, a single ticket managed to match all six numbers—22, 24, 40, 52, 64 and the red Powerball number 10. The Power Play multiplex was 2X.

It has been confirmed by the lottery officials that the winning ticket was sold at Midway Market and Liquor in Frazier Park in Kern County, California. At the moment, no further information about the winner or winners has been disclosed. While only one ticket had the winning numbers, we can’t yet assume that there’s a single lucky player who will get the entire prize. There could be several participants who agreed to share the winnings. We will update this page once more details are revealed.

The Californian player is not the only one to have won a prize last night. In total, there were over 5 million winners, so check out the prize breakdown and find out if you’re one of them as well. Seven ticket holders from California, Florida, New York, Oklahoma and Virginia matched five numbers and won $1 million each. Two other tickets, purchased in Arizona and Pennsylvania, matched all five white balls and got $2 million each as they used the Power Play option.

What’s next?

The winner or winners will have one year to claim their prize. When they decide to do so, they will have to choose between the full amount of $1.765 billion in annuity payments or take the cash lump sum of $774.1 million. According to the California Lottery rules, the winner’s name will need to be released when they come forward to claim their prize, however they can keep other details private.

This is the second jackpot in a row which surpassed the $1 billion prize amount. The previous jackpot was won earlier this year, on July 19, by a single player from the same state, California. The prize hasn’t been claimed yet but they still have plenty of time until their claiming period ends.

Now that it’s been won, the Powerball jackpot has reset to its base amount of $20 million and a cash lump value of $8.8 million. You can enter the next Powerball draw which happens on Saturday. However, there’s a bigger jackpot which is still waiting for a winner—the Mega Millions grand prize has now reached $48 million, with a cash option of $21.2 million. Whichever lottery you prefer, you can easily enter the next draw online.
