The jackpot reached its current level after no one matched all six numbers in the last draw on Wednesday, August 12. The Texas Lottery game also has the third-highest prize in the entire world, behind EuroMillions at $104.74 million and Mega Millions at $40 million.

"Lotto Texas has been on an exciting run and now the jackpot has emerged as the largest on the continent," said Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission.

“This game has always been a favorite among Texas Lottery players, and we know they will be thrilled to play for one of the largest prizes in the world."

There's only been a single Lotto Texas jackpot winner this year - a Laredo player hit the top prize of $17.5 million on January 15 with a Quick Pick ticket purchased at Stripes Store 40922H, at 5301 McPherson Road in Laredo.

The winner chose to stay anonymous, which is allowed under state law. They opted for the cash lump sum and received a payout of $13,349,448.78 before tax withholdings of 24 percent.

The last time the Lotto Texas jackpot topped $30 million was over two years ago, when a Houston resident won $30.25 million in the May 16, 2018 draw with a ticket from MJ's All Season Food Store.

The highest Lotto Texas jackpot of all time was $145 million, which was won in El Paso on June 19, 2004. Alfredo Ornelas Barragan, on behalf of VOM Enterprises Ltd., claimed the cash option of $61.9 million after taxes.
