California’s Lucky Streak Continues With Powerball Jackpot Win
Monday June 2nd 2025A lucky ticket holder from California matched all the Powerball numbers on Saturday night to win a jackpot worth $204.5 million. It is the second time this year that Powerball’s top prize has gone to someone from the Golden State, following a $526.5 million payout in March.

The winning numbers for May 31 were 1, 29, 37, 56 and 68, with a Powerball of 13. The Power Play multiplier was 2x, doubling the prize amount for thousands of players. Two participants - one from New Hampshire and one from Florida - landed $2 million after matching five numbers without the Powerball and adding the Power Play option. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to see all the payouts for the draw.
It was revealed afterwards that the jackpot-winning ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven on Woodman Avenue in Arleta, southern CA. The retailer will also receive a $1 million bonus for selling the winning entry.
The winner has one year to claim the money - so the deadline is the end of May 2026. They can take the full jackpot amount as an annuity paid out over 29 years, or the cash option that is preferred by the majority of winners. If they take the lump sum payment, it is worth $92.5 million before taxes.
Big California Winners
California has now been the scene of 17 Powerball jackpot wins, including many of the biggest in history and five in the last three years.
Edwin Castro from Altadena, CA pocketed a record $2.04 billion in November 2022, describing himself as ‘shocked and ecstatic’. The second-largest jackpot of all time was valued at $1.76 billion and went to a group of Californian winners represented by Theodorus Struyck.
Go to the Powerball page to find out more about the game’s top 10 wins - four of them feature players from the Golden State.
