Connecticut Couple Celebrates Anniversary With Big Win

Thursday February 15th 2018

A husband and wife from Waterbury in Connecticut have set their sights on retirement and a couple of vacations after they marked their 45th wedding anniversary with a big lottery win, which will allow them to extend the celebrations long into the future.

Frank and Margaret Vaccarelli, who got married in 1973, regularly enjoy a game of Gold Premium Play and their dream of winning the $500,000 jackpot finally came true on their special day.

“It’s amazing. I can’t believe it,” Frank, who has worked at an elementary school as head custodian for over a decade, told officials from the Connecticut Lottery. “[Gold Premium Play] is the only scratch game we play! I always said, ‘Maybe one day we’ll hit it’. Now I can retire in July.”

The lucky couple, who bought the winning ticket from City Gas & Grocery on 1439 Baldwin Street in Waterbury, added that they plan to ‘go to Disney and pay some bills’.

Love In The Air For Powerball Players

Love was also in the air for Powerball players on Valentine’s Day as hundreds of thousands of prizes were given away across America. The biggest winners on the night were the two players - one from California and one from Massachusetts - who matched five main numbers to win $1 million each.

Nobody won the jackpot and the top prize will now grow to $223 million for the next draw on Saturday night. Go to the Powerball Numbers page for more information about the latest results.

The Mega Millions jackpot is also up to $168 million for Friday night’s drawing, and you can pick up tickets for either game from authorized retailers in participating states, or choose numbers online.
