The DC Lottery launched the game ahead of the latest draw on Monday October 6th, when a jackpot of $4.17 million was put up for grabs. Nobody matched all the numbers, so an even higher amount will be available in the next draw.

How Lotto America Works

Lotto America draws take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night, with a starting jackpot of $2 million that keeps rolling until it is won. It has even been known to go beyond $40 million. This might seem low when compared to other multi-state lotteries like Powerball & Mega Millions, but with jackpot odds of roughly 1 in 26 million, your chances of winning the Lotto America grand prize are over 10x higher than winning the Powerball jackpot (approx. 1 in 292 million), so it balances out.

To play, you have to pick five numbers between 1 and 52, plus a Star Ball number from 1 to 10. Match them all to win the top prize, or land one of the eight other payouts if you match fewer numbers.

You can also add the All Star Bonus option to your ticket, doubling the cost of a play from $1 to $2. This multiplies the value of wins by 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x. Go to the Lotto America page to learn more about the game.

The rules will be the same in Washington D.C. as everywhere else. Lotto America can also be played in Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee and West Virginia. Ticket sales will close at 10:00 PM ET in the District of Columbia ahead of the draw at 10:15 PM ET.

DC Lottery Games

The DC Lottery already offers a host of exciting games, including Powerball and Double Play, Mega Millions, Lucky for Life, DC-2, DC-3, DC-4, DC-5 and Keno. There have been a host of big wins, topped off by a $144 million Powerball payout to Rockson LLC in April 2009.

The addition of Lotto America is sure to help the DC Lottery go from strength to strength. More than $4.8 billion has already been awarded in prizes since its inception in 1982, while more than $2.4 billion has been transferred to the District’s General Fund.

Make sure to grab yourself a ticket for Lotto America if you’re in D.C. or another participating location, then keep an eye out for the winning numbers after every draw.
