International Expansion for Powerball as Game Heads to UK
Wednesday April 15th 2026Powerball will expand into a new market this summer after a deal was agreed to take the game to the UK. It marks the first time in Powerball history that a non-U.S.lottery will contribute to the jackpot, and bosses are confident that it will have a positive impact.

Powerball is currently played in 45 states and three more jurisdictions, and the number of participating lotteries will soon increase to 49 with the addition of the UK.
With a larger population than any single state and an appetite for playing exciting new games, the UK’s imminent arrival in Powerball is sure to drive up ticket sales significantly. This is set to lead to the jackpot growing more quickly.
“This partnership expands the player base in a way that benefits every jurisdiction participating in Powerball,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. “This is a win for Powerball players – as more people play, the faster jackpots grow, all while keeping odds the same for every Powerball drawing, wherever a player buys their $2 ticket.”
Strawn also offered assurances that the UK’s participation would not take away from the funding that goes towards good causes in U.S. states. More than a third of every $2 ticket stays in the jurisdiction where the ticket is sold, supporting services such as education. The international expansion is designed to strengthen the long-term sustainability of the game.
Strawn explained: “For decades, Powerball proceeds have provided real benefits to Americans, year after year. This will not change. This summer's expansion to the UK helps secure the game’s future as a dependable source of funding for the public programs and services our players care about.”
Will Powerball Change for U.S. Players?
The UK National Lottery and participating U.S. lotteries will pool funds for the Powerball jackpot, but not for lower-tier prizes. This means the UK will contribute just as much to building the jackpot with every ticket sold. The payout structure below the jackpot will be different in the UK but will only use revenue generated in the UK.
For U.S. players, the game will not change at all. Draws will continue every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night, still taking place in Florida. The number matrix is staying the same, so the odds do not change either. The cost of a ticket will remain $2 (in the UK it will cost £4).
The only difference you will notice is that the jackpot should soar quicker than ever before, and occasionally there may be a UK winner of the top prize. A specific start date for Powerball to launch in the UK has not yet been announced.
