Mega Millions to Offer Biggest Jackpot Since January

Wednesday May 13th 2015

After no player could match all six numbers drawn in last night’s Mega Millions game, the top prize has soared to an estimated $159 million - the highest amount since January 2015, when Jesus Davila Jr. of Napierville won a stunning $265 million. His windfall, claimed in late February, was the largest in Illinois Lottery history, and this week another lucky player could make their mark if they match all five main numbers and the Mega Ball on Friday night.

While the top prize has been rolling over for more than a month, fans of this huge interstate lottery game have still been cleaning up, with over 18.3 million cash prizes awarded to fortunate winners since late March when the jackpot was last won. In the Mega Millions draw on Tuesday, May 12th, two players - one from New York and one from Texas - matched five main numbers to win $1 million each. Two prizes in April 2015 were worth $5 million each thanks to their owners hitting the correct Megaplier.

Hitting the jackpot offered for Friday would see you overtake the Lucky 16 Trust, a group of biotech workers who snapped up $58 million in the drawing held on Tuesday, March 24th. The workers, some of whom were from as far away as California, had been playing as a syndicate since 2010 and had purchased their New York Mega Millions ticket from a Carlton Cards shop in Manhattan. Each member of the group picked up more than $1.65 million after taxes.

For your chance to grab $159 million (estimated cash value $95 million), make sure you buy Mega Millions tickets for Friday’s drawing. Don’t forget to check for the latest winning Mega Millions numbers shortly after the drawing is over to see if you’ve won big!
