The draw held on January 1, 2024 brought the $842.4 million Powerball jackpot to a lucky player from Michigan who managed to match all six winning numbers. The grand prize had been rolling over since mid-October when one Californian player won the second-largest jackpot worth $1.76 billion. The jackpot kept on rolling over until, on the 35th draw, one participant from Michigan matched the five main numbers plus the Powerball. The winning numbers were 12, 21, 42, 44, 49, with the red Powerball 1. The Power Play multiplier was 3X. While the jackpot was initially estimated at $810 million, ticket sales made it possible for it to be increased to $842.4 million.

Although there was only a single ticket which matched all six numbers, there were over 1.8 million winning tickets across lower prize categories. Four participants who bought their tickets in California, Connecticut, Florida and Maryland matched five main numbers and each won a $1 million prize. Two other tickets sold in Florida and Texas also matched the five white balls but they included the Power Play option, meaning their prize was doubled and each got $2 million. Make sure to check out the results and discover if you are one of the winners.

Shortly after the draw took place, it was confirmed that the ticket was purchased at the Food Castle of Grand Blanc, located at 3035 East Grand Blanc Road in Grand Blanc. The identity of the winner is not known yet but it will be revealed once they decide to claim the prize and contact The Michigan Lottery. They will have one year to come forward regarding the big win and they’ll need to choose between annuity or a one-time payment of $425.2 million.

This draw made history as it was the first time when a Powerball jackpot has been won on New Year’s Day since the launch of the game in 1992. Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director, said: “What an incredible beginning to the New Year for Powerball! In addition to our big jackpot winner, there are hundreds of good causes supported by U.S. lotteries that will receive further funding from this jackpot run. Thank you to our players for making this possible! Happy New Year!”

Now that the jackpot has been won, it’s been reset to its base amount of $20 million. Draws happen on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night and you too can enter for a chance to become a millionaire
