Missouri Powerball Jackpot Winner Claims $410 Million Prize
Wednesday September 24th 2025On September 6th, two incredibly lucky ticket holders won the Powerball jackpot, which you may remember was an astonishing $1.787 billion - that's $1,787,000,000. The winner from Missouri has now come forward to claim their prize, and here's the scoop.

How the Win Came About
By the draw on Saturday 6th, the jackpot had rolled over more than 40 times, and the $1.787 billion jackpot was the second-highest in the game's history. The Missouri winner (who remains anonymous, despite having come forward to claim their prize) had purchased a Quick Pick Powerball ticket at a QuikTrip in St. Louis, which happened to match all the winning numbers: 11-23-44-61-62, with a Powerball of 17.
How Much Are They Taking Home?
Powerball jackpots are 'parimutuel', which means that they are divided evenly between the number of winning tickets. Since there were two winners for this draw, the jackpot prize is divided in half.
The Missouri winner has opted to take their prize as a one-time cash lump sum of $410.3 million, before tax. Had they chosen the annuity prize, they would have received $893.5 million in annual payments over the course of 30 years, before tax.
Missouri applies a 4% state tax on all lottery winnings over $600, and the federal government also levies a 24% tax on all lottery winnings. As a result, the winner will actually be taking home significantly less than $410.3 million, although the final sum will still be a mind-boggling amount regardless.
What Next for the Winner?
Although the winner has chosen to remain anonymous, they've not given the MO Lottery the silent treatment like some big winners do!
The winner plans to take some time off to relax, which I think would be pretty high on all our lists if we won the lottery: "I’m going to just do me for a year" … "I’m like a homebody. The perfect day is sitting at home doing what I do – relaxing."
The winner's family is (naturally) set to benefit too, as his wife will be reducing her workload following this incredible win. “She’s going to drag me out of town now,” the winner jokes.
Winning so much money can be hard to wrap one's head around, something that the winner is still coming to terms with: "I’m a millionaire, a multi-millionaire, and I’m doing laundry last night … It’s the best problem I’ve ever had".
What Next for the Rest of Us?
Well, the other Jackpot winner over in Fredericksburg, Texas, has until March 5th to claim their prize (although that would be cutting it very fine!), in accordance with Texas's 180-day claims cutoff.
Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot has risen all the way back to an estimates $127 million for the next draw. Head to your nearest retailer to try your luck, or visit our Tickets Page to get involved online.
