More ways to win big with Arkansas lottery

Thursday December 2nd 2010

Arkansas lottery players now have another way of winning $1million following a change to the state’s Mega Millions payout rules. Any player who pays $1 to take part in the main Mega Millions lottery game and then stakes an extra dollar to take advantage of the Megaplier feature will now automatically win a cool million dollars if they match all five white ball numbers. Previously, players who had bought into the feature and matched the main numbers would win a prize of $250,000, multiplied two, three or four times, depending on the draw.

The change brings Arkansas’ Mega Millions prizes into line with payouts in the other multi-state lottery game, Powerball, which is drawn twice a week on Wednesday and Saturdays. Powerball players who match the first five numbers drawn and have paid for the multiplier feature automatically win $1million.

Organisers of the state lottery will be hoping the news will boost lotto ticket sales and help take the spotlight off the lottery’s director, Ernie Passailaigue, who has come under fire following the discovery of financial irregularities and unacceptable accounting practices.

The next Mega Millions draws will take place tomorrow, Friday, December 3. Anyone managing to match all five main numbers as well as the mega ball will take a share of an estimated jackpot of $62million.
