This is more proof of the Double Play trend catching on. When it first launched in August 2021 it was only available in 13 states, but increasingly more states are adding it to Powerball playslips. Kansas joined the Double Play fancy dress party recently and now North Carolina follows in tow with sombreros and maracas.

How Does the Double Play Add-On Work?

Double Play drawings take place straight after the main Powerball numbers are revealed. It’s essentially a second chance for your numbers. You don’t need to pick a second selection to take part, you’re simply playing the same set of numbers twice in a row.

Double Play only costs an extra $1 per ticket, and the cash prizes go as high as $10 million. With this exciting addition on the horizon, lottery fans are eager to take part and increase their chances of winning. And it’s worth knowing that players who add Double Play to their playslips are increasing their odds by 96%.

Cash prizes for the Double Play add-on feature are as follows:

Match Prize Odds
5 of 5 + Powerball $10,000,000 1 in 292,201,338.00
5 of 5 $500,000 1 in 11,688,053.52
4 of 5 + Powerball $50,000 1 in 913,129.18
4 of 5 $500 1 in 36,525.17
3 of 5 + Powerball $500 1 in 14,494.11
3 of 5 $20 1 in 579.76
2 of 5 + Powerball $20 1 in 701.33
1 of 5 + Powerball $10 1 in 91.98
Powerball only $7 1 in 38.32

How to Play Double Play?

When purchasing a Powerball ticket through a retailer, lottery players simply have to ask them to add ‘Double Play’ to their tickets when they hand them in at the local lottery office and the retailer will add it to their playslips. If you are purchasing from a lottery vending machine, or online through a website or app, then players must select the Double Play option when they fill out their playslips virtually.

Remember that Double Play is only available as an add-on when buying a standard Powerball ticket. If you purchase a $2 Powerball ticket, adding Double Play will cost $3.
