Monday night’s draw offered a chance to win $638 million. A ticket holder from Massachusetts came closest to landing the full amount, matching all five main numbers - 2, 21, 26, 40 and 42, but missing out on the Powerball of 9. Go to the Powerball Numbers page to view all the payout information.
Ticket sales are set to drive up the jackpot even quicker from now on. The cash value for the next drawing is expected to be around $320.5 million. If anyone does match all the numbers, they will have to choose whether to take the lump sum or the $672 million as an annuity over 29 years.
A Year of Big Winners
It is the fourth time in the last 12 months that the jackpot has gone above the $600 million mark. Back in November 2022, Edwin Castro from California pocketed a record $2.04 billion, and the big wins have kept coming in 2023.
Becky Bell from Auburn in Washington won $754 million in February, before another Californian billionaire was created in July. That was the last time the jackpot was won, and it has been climbing steadily ever since.
Mega Millions has also topped $1 billion a couple of times in 2023, most recently when a player from Florida became the game’s biggest-ever winner with a $1.602 billion jackpot in August.
The current Mega Millions jackpot is worth $183 million, but can also be expected to keep surging upwards at a rapid rate until someone wins.
