Powerball Jackpot Tops $400 Million For Only The Tenth Time

Tuesday February 21st 2017

A run of 18 draws without a jackpot winner has pushed the Powerball top prize past the $400 million barrier, and excitement is now building rapidly as players wait to discover whether it will be won on Wednesday or whether it will continue to grow.

There have only been nine bigger jackpots given away in the history of the game than the $403 million currently on offer, with the list topped by the record $1.58 billion which was split between three ticket holders on January 13th of last year. For anyone who wants to take the cash option rather than the annuity, the current value stands at $243.9 million, and ticket sales are set to intensify ahead of tomorrow’s drawing.

It is sure to be a busy couple of days for retailers, but one customer service manager was recently left thankful for being rushed off his feet after winning $7 million. Michael Donnelly, who works at the Harris-Teeter at 6351 Columbia Pike in Falls Church, Virginia, accidentally printed off a Cash4Life ticket for one customer rather than a Powerball ticket during a particularly hectic spell.

As the shopper did not want the ticket, he ended up buying it himself and was stunned to find out that that he had won a life-changing prize. Donnelly admits the news ‘still hasn’t hit me yet’, while his wife has been quoted as telling lottery officials that she told her husband to ’come home because I’m about to have a heart attack’, when she was told.

If you want to put yourself in with a chance of winning this week’s phenomenal prize, tickets are available online or from authorized retailers in participating states and jurisdictions, and it could just be that you walk off with the tenth biggest Powerball jackpot of all time!
