Powerball officials in New Zealand are celebrating the biggest ever jackpot win after $19,054,243 was scooped by a single winning ticket on Saturday 5 April. The owner of the ticket, which was bought at a Pak N Save store in New Plymouth, had not come forward to claim their prize at the time of writing.

The record-breaking jackpot consists of a Powerball First division prize of $18,816,031 and a Lotto First Division prize of $238,212. The biggest jackpot payout previously was worth $17,992,975. That was won in May 2006 by a player in Kaeo in Auckland.

“Anyone who bought a Powerball ticket in New Plymouth had better sit down before they check it as they may have just won $19,054,243,” said Todd McLeay of New Zealand Lotteries. “Imagine how it must feel to circle those winning numbers and realise you have just become a multi-millionaire.”

Six other New Zealand Lotto players also won $238,212 each from the Lotto First Division, and two players won Strike Four prizes of $244,811.

Todd McLeay advised anyone who bought a winning ticket to write their name on the reverse and make an official claim as soon as possible.
