All that is known at this early stage is that the lucky winner purchased the ticket from the Kum & Go convenience store in Rifle. Lottery officials visited the winning store on Monday and presented the store’s owner with a check worth $50,000 as commission for selling the winning ticket.

This latest jackpot win is only the second time since Colorado joined the multi-state lottery in 2001 that a player in the state has won Powerball’s top prize. The state’s first Powerball jackpot win was a staggering seven years ago when a syndicate made up of four employees of the SEEP Financial Group shared a $20 million top prize.

The luck continued for Colorado in Saturday’s Powerball drawing when another ticket holder in the state matched all five main numbers to walk away with a $1 million prize. The winning ticket was purchased at the K&G store in Broomfield, Denver and so lottery officials are now waiting for both big winners to come forward.

These lucky winners may or may not know they are sitting on life-changing wins so we advise everyone who purchased a Powerball ticket in Rifle and Broomfield for Saturday’s drawing to check their numbers immediately. If they haven’t already done so, the winners should immediately sign the back of their tickets and then put them in safe place until they can claim their prizes.

The winning Powerball numbers from August 9th can be found on the Powerball Results page.
