Millionaire for Life Set for Debut in 31 States
Tuesday January 20th 2026The multi-state lottery Millionaire for Life is set to begin in 31 states on February 22, making it the biggest game launch in the U.S. this century. Find out everything you need to know.

How much can I win?
As the name of the game suggests, the top prize in Millionaire for Life is $1 million a year, on repeat! Payments continue for the rest of a winner’s life, so there would never be any financial stress again. Even the second prize is worth $100,000 a year for life. For those players who prefer a cash option, lump-sum payouts are available as alternatives ($18 million for the top prize).
Including the two annuity prizes, there are nine different ways to win in Millionaire for Life, starting at $8.
How do I play?
It’s a double-matrix game, similar to Powerball and Mega Millions. You are required to pick five main numbers from 1 to 58, plus a Millionaire Ball from a separate set of 1 to 5. Beyond that it’s very simple - no multipliers or other features. Decide how many drawings to enter and buy your tickets before the cut-off time.
Draws take place daily after 10:00 PM CT, and the cost of a ticket is $5 per play. Go to the Millionaire for Life page for a full step-by-step guide.
Where can I play?
The game will be launched in the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York (pending regulatory approval), Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming.
Does this mean Cash4Life and Lucky for Life are ending?
Yes, Cash4Life and Lucky for Life will come to an end after their final draws are held on February 21. Most of the states that had one of these two legacy games will sell tickets for Millionaire for Life from its launch, except for Delaware, Florida, Maryland and Missouri. Two other state lotteries, Mississippi and West Virginia, have also decided to join the new game despite not previously being a part of Cash4Life or Lucky for Life.
Cash4Life and Lucky for Life both offered jackpots of $1,000 per day for life. They remained popular games, but the new nationwide game is expected to bring fresh energy and excitement, with the increased player pool allowing organisers to put bigger prizes up for grabs.
If you have got an old ticket for Cash4Life or Lucky for Life, you will still be able to claim prizes after the games are discontinued. The claim deadline is 180 days to one year from the date of the relevant drawing, depending on where you played.
How does it compare to Powerball and Mega Millions?
The $1-million-a-year-for-life top prize might still pale in comparison to the billion-dollar jackpots that can be found on Powerball and Mega Millions, but your chances of winning Millionaire for Life are so much more favorable. The jackpot odds are 1 in 22,910,580 - that’s around 10 times better than the odds of winning Powerball or Mega Millions.
Even if you miss out on the jackpot, the overall odds of winning a prize on Millionaire for Life are 1 in 8.47 - approximately three times better than your chances on either of the other two games.
If you are someone who would take annuity over cash, there are other reasons to favor Millionaire for Life too. It’s not just the top prize that may be paid over a lifetime, the second prize can be paid in repeated installments too. That’s not an available payment option with Powerball or Mega Millions. The Millionaire for Life payments keep on coming too for as long as you live, whereas Powerball and Mega Millions annuities last a maximum of 29 years.
Millionaire for Life is played daily, rather than just two or three times a week, so there’s never too long to wait for the next opportunity to win. Draws start on February 22, so check out the winning numbers as soon as they are available.
