A Powerball Wedding

The Powerball jackpot, which has a cash value of $239.7 million, has been growing since a small family syndicate from Louisiana won $191.1 million on Wednesday 25th October. Every drawing has still created lots of big winners, though, with players determined not to miss out on the chance to become a multimillionaire even when they have other important commitments.

A couple from Bel Air in Maryland came forward just before Christmas to claim the $50,000 they won in the draw on December 13th, and revealed to lottery officials that they had bought the lucky ticket on the day of their wedding.

The husband, originally from Pennsylvania, picked up the ticket just after he got his hair cut when he decided to pop into the Royal Farms store in Fallston for some snacks. He checked the numbers whilst on honeymoon and was astonished to discover that he and his new wife had been given an unexpected wedding gift.

“We’re just so grateful for the last couple of days and this just makes it better,” said the couple, who have dubbed themselves ‘the Thousandaires’.

Huge Mega Millions Jackpot

The Mega Millions jackpot might not be quite as high as its Powerball counterpart, but it has been building for slightly longer. The last time it was won was on October 13th, when two ticket holders split $43 million.

The current top prize of $306 million, which works out as $191 million in cash if a winner wanted to take a one-off payment rather than annuity, is the second-largest Mega Millions jackpot of the year. Patricia Busking of Palos Heights, Illinois, previously pocketed $393 million on August 11th.

You can choose numbers online for either Mega Millions or Powerball, or go to an authorized retailer in a participating state. Good luck!
