Illinois Lotto Player Won Biggest Jackpot of The Year
Tuesday September 26th 2023After having rolled over since October 17, 2022, the grand prize worth $23.75 million was finally won by a lucky player. The jackpot is the largest Illinois Lotto win this year and the second largest amount won in more than seven years.
The winning numbers for the Thursday, September 21 draw were: 4, 14, 19, 32, 36, 42, and the Extra Shot 24. In total, there were over 70,000 winners, so make sure you check the draw results to find out if you are one of them.
The winning ticket was sold at a BP gas station on 400 East 95th Street, in one of Chicago’s neighborhoods, Roseland. Because the gas station sold the lucky ticket, they will receive 1% of the total jackpot, meaning a bonus worth $237,500.
Tanveer Haroon, the co-owner of the gas station was shocked to find out the winning ticket was sold by them. “I can’t believe it, the winning jackpot ticket was actually sold here,” he shared.
“We’ve owned this family business for more than ten years, and this is by far the biggest winning jackpot ticket we’ve ever sold at our store – I’m so happy.”
He’s unsure of how he’ll spend the bonus but he mentioned he plans on celebrating with his family.
The identity of the lucky winner is unknown at the moment, but Tanveer said: “I don’t know (who might have bought the winning ticket), but I have a good feeling that it’s one of our regular customers. We have many that frequently buy Lotto tickets – I bet it’s one of them. But no matter what, I’m excited for the lottery millionaire.”
Dave Trivedi, one of the employees at that BP gas station, said he and his colleagues hadn’t talked to his boss about the amount they would each get but mentioned that the previous owner had split some of the winnings with the staff.
“We are very happy that from this neighborhood somebody won the lottery!”, he said.
Illinois Lotto players from the south suburbs and South Chicago seem to be lucky enough to win big. Since the beginning of the year, and including this week’s record-breaking grand prize, there have been eight tickets worth over $1 million.
