Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots are increasing at surprising rates lately, with prize pools reaching milestones that are more than worth playing for. Powerball’s jackpot has rolled over 30 times in a row, while Mega Millions has gone 24 drawings without a winner.

Powerball Approaches $700 Million

The last time the jackpot was won, it was worth $1.04 billion. This was in mid-August and reset to its usual baseline of $20 million. Just over ten weeks later, the jackpot is around two-thirds of the way to the $1 billion milestone after 30 consecutive rollovers, and could pass three-quarters of a billion dollars within the next couple of drawings (if nobody wins).

This shows how quickly Powerball jackpots accumulate now. That could be down to three drawings a week since 2021, the UK’s National Lottery joining the game in July (with British players buying into the same drawings for £4 per ticket), or simply more people taking part because of the massive jackpots on offer. Either way, it has compounded the prize, which is already the second-biggest Powerball jackpot of 2026.

If you want to take part in the next drawing and get a shot at the jackpot, the next draw takes place on Saturday, October 24. The jackpot is estimated as worth $674 million, with a cash value of $283.9 million.

Mega Millions Passes $400 Million

Mega Millions is not too far behind, with a $433 million jackpot ($178.6 million cash) set for the next drawing on Friday, October 23. It was last won on July 28, when a Florida ticket matched all five main numbers plus the Mega Ball to win $803 million ($345.5 million cash), the third Mega Millions jackpot of 2026. That run lasted roughly 19 weeks after the previous win on March 17, averaging a $20 million increase per draw.

Roughly twelve weeks and 24 drawings later, it has climbed past $400 million. Its growth is steadier than Powerball’s, likely because there are only two drawings a week (Tuesday and Friday), and the game is only available in the US. Since April 2025, tickets cost $5 and include a built-in multiplier of 2x to 10x, and the starting jackpot was raised to $50 million.
