Tuesday November 10th 2020

If you bought a MI Lotto 47 ticket in Ferndale or Lake Odessa, there are millions of reasons to check your numbers. Two tickets hit the game's largest-ever top prize, $32.3 million, on Saturday.

Both lucky tickets matched all six winning numbers - 4, 16, 33, 38, 40 and 44 - in the November 7 Lotto 47 draw. The tickets were purchased at:

  • Select Wine Shop, 1318 West 9 Mile Road in Ferndale
  • Shell gas station, 1203 Jordan Lake Street in Lake Odessa, Ionia County

Each winner will receive $16.14 million if they choose the annuity option, with yearly payments over 30 years. The alternative is the cash option, where the winner receives a single lump-sum payout.

Any way you look at it, that's a lot of money - did the latest prize make it into the top 10 Michigan Lottery jackpot wins?

The winners have one year from the draw date to claim their prizes. Once they claim, they'll have 60 days to select the cash option - otherwise they will receive the annuity.

We may never know who the winners are, because Michigan law allows Lotto 47 and Fantasy 5 winners of $10,000 and above to stay anonymous. Anyone else - like Powerball and Mega Millions winners - are not able to keep their identity private.

Customers told Billy Kesto, the owner of Select Wine Shop, that his store had sold one of the winning tickets from a lotto machine, although he was unsure when the ticket was purchased. The store will receive a bonus commission from the Michigan Lottery.

Kesto, 31, who has owned the store for five years, would be happy if some of the player's luck rubs off. "Hopefully I'm going to get a tip from that person," he said. "Hopefully I'm going to do better business."

More Michigan Winners

As well as the jackpot winners, Saturday's Lotto 47 draw also saw 101 lucky tickets score $2,500 each to win the game's second prize by matching five out of six numbers drawn.

In the Double Play second-chance drawing, no ticket won the $1.5 million top prize by matching all six winning numbers: 1, 7, 15, 19, 29 and 39. Eight second-tier winners scooped $5,000 each by matching five numbers.

There was one winner of the EZmatch add-on's $500 first prize.

The Lotto 47 jackpot rolled over 77 times since it was last won in February, when a Macomb County player scored a $3.4 million payday.

The previous record for the game's biggest prize was $23.6 million won by a Macomb County resident on March 1, 2008.

The Lotto 47 jackpot has now reset to its $1 million starting level for the next draw on Wednesday, November 11. Draws are held every Wednesday and Saturday evening at 7:29 pm. Ticket sales stop at 7:08 pm on draw nights and restart for the next draw at 7:10 pm.

There's been a lot of lottery luck in the Wolverine State recently, including a happy accident that led to two $1 million Mega Millions prizes. Samir Mazahem of Dearborn Heights was certainly glad he mistakenly bought two tickets with the same numbers after they both turned out to be big winners.
