A lucky Californian’s trip to a convenience store in Anaheim turned into a $64 million payday after they matched all the numbers to win the SuperLotto Plus jackpot.
The jackpot had not previously been won since March 28, a run of 58 drawings that spanned more than six months and created one of the largest prizes to have been seen in recent SuperLotto Plus history.
The wait for a winner finally came to an end on Saturday night, when the numbers drawn were 3, 25, 27, 29 and 37, with a Mega Ball of 17. It was quickly revealed that a single entry had beaten the odds of 1 in 41.4 million to land the jackpot. The ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven, located at 240 S. Magnolia Ave. in Anaheim.
No more information has been disclosed about the winner at this stage, so the next step is for them to come forward within the 180-day claim limit. The player will then have to decide whether to take the money as annual payments or go for the cash option.
As well as the jackpot winner, there were more than 120,000 other prizes paid out on Saturday night. Three players matched all five main numbers and just missed out on the Mega Ball, pocketing $13,920 each.
While $64 million is a staggeringly high jackpot, especially for a single-state lottery, it did not come close to breaking the SuperLotto Plus record. That was set all the way back in November 2005, when seven ticket holders split $315 million.
Go to the SuperLotto Plus page to find out everything you need to know about the game, including all the prize categories and the odds of winning for each one.
The jackpot will now reset to $7 million for the next draw on Wednesday night. Make sure to pick up a ticket before the cut-off time, then check the winning numbers as soon as they are available.
