Massachusetts Player Wins Record $29.71 Million Megabucks Jackpot

A Megabucks player made Massachusetts Lottery history on Monday evening when they matched all six numbers to win $29.71 million - the largest jackpot to have ever been seen on the game.

The Megabucks jackpot soared past its previous high mark of $21.71 million in early July and kept on climbing for another couple of months, making it almost a year and a half since the last time someone won in April 2025.

Another roll or two would have seen the jackpot go beyond $30 million for the first time in the game’s 44-year history, but instead there was one ticket holder who matched the numbers 21, 28, 31, 34, 40 and 44 in the drawing on September 7.

The MA Lottery later announced that the winning ticket was a Quic Pic, sold in Holyoke at the King Mart store located at 494 Westfield Road. It is not the first time that this retailer has celebrated a major win, having also sold a $15 million winning scratch-off in 2025.

As there was only one winning ticket in the Match 6 tier, the lucky player does not have to share the historic prize. Back in 1985 when the previous record was set, eight participants split the $21.71 million jackpot.

The winner has one year to come forward and claim their prize. They can take the money as an annuity or a one-time lump sum of approximately $19.6 million before taxes.

Megabucks launched in November 1982 and has changed a lot over the years. The most recent major update came in 2023, when a Monday draw was added to the schedule along with the traditional lineup of Wednesday and Saturday draws.

To win the jackpot, you must match six numbers from 1 to 44. However, there are also other ways to win prizes if you match fewer numbers. The jackpot starts at $500,000.
