Powerball Double Play Lands in New York
Monday June 8th 2026The New York Lottery has added the Double Play game to Powerball, giving players in the Empire State a second chance to win great prizes on every draw night.

Tickets with the Double Play option went on sale on June 2, ahead of the drawing on June 3. Thousands of New Yorkers have already picked up payouts across the first couple of draws.
How Double Play Works
Double Play is an optional add-on that can be played alongside the main Powerball game for an extra $1. It cannot be played on its own.
When you take part, your chosen Powerball numbers are entered into an additional ‘second-chance’ style draw. You don’t need to pick another set of numbers or do anything else apart from opt in and pay the extra $1.
Double Play draws are held on the same draw nights and the prize categories mirror those of the main draw. In fact, the payouts are higher in Double Play for six of the nine prize levels. The Double Play jackpot is a fixed $10 million in every draw. Power Play does not apply to Double Play.
Double Play initially launched in 13 states in August 2021, before expanding into more jurisdictions over the next few years. New York has just become the 28th participating state, while Arizona will also be joining later in June.
To celebrate the launch of Double Play, the NY Lottery is running a promotion from June 3 through July 29. It is called ‘Power Wednesdays’, and anyone buying a regular Powerball ticket will be given a chance to receive a free Powerball ticket with Double Play. Around 650,000 free $3 tickets are set to be given away during the course of the promotion, with the bonus entries awarded at random at the time of purchase.
Big Jackpots Three Times A Week
You can play Powerball and Double Play three times a week - Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The jackpot for the main draw currently stands at $225 million.
