Wisconsin Woman Collects $156.2 Million Powerball Jackpot

Monday July 31st 2017 Wisconsin Woman Collects $156.2 Million Powerball Jackpot

A woman from Wisconsin has come forward to collect a Powerball jackpot worth $156.2 million. Mai Xiong from Milwaukee correctly matched the numbers 2, 9, 27, 29, 42 and Powerball 9 in the drawing on Wednesday March 22nd to land the sizeable sum, but failed to contact state lottery officials until last week, leading to statewide appeals.

With the nine-figure reward set to expire in September, Wisconsin State Lottery officials had been searching for the mystery winner for many months, but with no success. However, following a fresh search, the missing winner was finally revealed.

Xiong, who purchased her entry from Pewaukee Corner Pump in the city of Pewaukee, opted to take the cash option and received a lump sum of $93.1 million after taxes. Meanwhile, the gas station from which the ticket was bought also prospered to the tune of $100,000. "I'm just glad that the ticket didn't end up in a washing machine or something," the store’s owner told reporters.

Accompanied by her family, Xiong was delighted to accept her vast fortune. While the group did not speak directly to the waiting media, Phill Trewyn of Mueller Communications did say a few words on their behalf: "They're very excited as you'd expect to have such a windfall come their way. And like most people, they are experiencing a lot of change right now and are busy with a lot of different things. So in light of that they are asking people to respectfully respect their privacy," he said.

This is the first Powerball jackpot to be won in the state of Wisconsin since 2009, when a prize of $31.4 million was claimed by Doug Miron of Marinette. This latest reward also came close to rivalling the biggest Powerball prize ever won in The Badger State, however, fell just shy of the $208.8 million collected by 'Miracle 100', a syndicate of 100 individuals from Fond du Lac in 2006.

The current Powerball jackpot is worth a colossal £261 million, so if you would like the chance to add this sum to your bank account, simply pick your numbers online or play via any authorised retailer in participating states and jurisdictions. Good luck!
