Pick 4 is a popular 4-digit draw game played in a lot of different states, but each with their own rules and draws. The Virginia Lottery version offers a grand prize of $5,000 which can be won twice a day, seven days a week. Pick 4 has lots of different play types, giving players all kinds of options for their ticket. Choose your bet type, wager amount, whether to play the Fireball add-on, decide how many Ways to play… The choices are all part of the fun!

There are two VA Pick 4 daws held every day: the Day Draw is at 1:59 PM ET, followed by the Night draw at 11:00 PM ET. Get your tickets for the next draw before sales close at 1:53 PM and 10:45 PM respectively.
First, decide on your Play Type. These are all the different ways your numbers can win, and you can only use one per play. You can read up on all the different play types in the section below.
Next, pick your numbers. You can play the same digit as many times as you like! For Exact Order plays, that's the end of it, but for Any Order, 50/50, and Combo plays, the numbers you pick will affect your odds, prizes, and ticket cost. Find out why in the Ways to Play section below, if you're curious.
Decide whether to wager $0.50 or $1 on your ticket - the only difference is that the $1 prizes are twice as big. 50/50 plays always cost $1, and Combo plays can cost from $2 to $24 depending on the number of duplicate digits you choose (explained in full in the Ways to Play section).
The Fireball add-on will double the cost of your play, but gives you lots more chances to win a prize. Here's how it works: After the main four numbers are drawn, a fifth 'Fireball' number, also from 0 to 9 is selected. Players with Fireball tickets can substitute any of the main four winning numbers with the Fireball number to create new wining combinations!
Select whether to enter your numbers in the Day draw, the Night draw, or Both - leave blank if you want the next available draw. Select the Multi-Draw option to enter up to 91 draws in a row on a single ticket. If you have a special date in mind, a Future Draw ticket will let you play on the date of your choice - check Optional Plays and let the retailer know your chosen date. And if you want to play your favorite lucky numbers again, ask to Repeat your ticket.
Exact Order - To win, match all four numbers in the same order they're drawn. Wager $0.50 or $1.
Any Order - To win, match all four numbers drawn in any order. Wager $0.50 or $1.
50/50 - A $1 bet split between $0.50 on Exact Order and $0.50 on Any Order. Matching in the Exact Order wins you both prizes!
Combo - This option places an Exact Order play on all potential combinations of your four digits. Wager $0.50 or $1, with tickets costing $4 to $24.
Some Pick 4 play types have different odds, prizes, and ticket costs depending on the number of duplicate digits you select. This is known as the number of Ways you play. In Pick 4, you can play 4-Ways (0001), 6-Ways (0011), 12-Ways (0012), and 24-Ways (0123).
Playing a number with more Ways gives you better odds of winning! To make things balanced, the Any Order prizes are higher if you play fewer Ways. For Combo plays, prizes stay the same but the ticket prices increase if you play more Ways.
The top prize in Virginia Pick 4 is $5,000, which you can win with a $1 Exact Order play. It's possible to win multiple prizes on a single play using the Fireball add-on, however. If you made a $1 Exact Order +Fireball play on four identical digits, and that digit was drawn five times (including the Fireball) as the winning number, you'd win five prizes worth a total of $11,000.
You must be at least 18 years old to play VA Pick 4.
Day draws are held at 1:59 PM ET, and Night draws are at 11:00 ET.
Sales for the upcoming Day draw are closed six minutes beforehand at 1:53 PM. For the Night draw, sales are closed 15 minutes before at 10:45. You can still purchase tickets for other draws during these breaks.
Pick 4 prizes can be claimed at VA Lottery retailers, by mail, or at a dedicated prize claim center. Check our guide on the main Virginia page for more details.
In Virginia, lottery prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw date, or else the prize will expire and cannot be recovered.
